Cool Finally, my first race with my new 93 5L.

Well, it finally happened. I've had my 93 5L for a little over a month now and I finally pulled up beside someone who was willing to have a go. He was driving a 94-95 Grand Prix and when I pulled up beside him, he looked over and laughed. I know my car's not the fastest thing out there, especially with no mods yet, but he had no clue. When the light turned green we both hit it and I blew him away by two car lengths before the two lanes merged back into one. I think he was definetely surprised. I kept on driving with a smile.
Anyone know if it's worth putting in a chip? I am going to put a dual exhaust with headers in the Spring along with a tranny kit, I was just wondering if it's worth it to throw a chip in there also.

I've heard allot of things about "chips" some people say they don't work, some say they do. I would really really research a chip before you put it in your car. Get in contact with people who have/had them and get thier opinions. I'm pretty sure there are performance computers made. It replaces the entire stock computer not just replacing a procesor chip. This would more than likely have more gains but shouldn't be too hard to find for a 5.0, I mean there are a ton of them out there. But read up on any computer/chip mod you are going to do before you do it and never ever buy one of the chips off ebay that say they can give you 20 horses by splicing it inbetween one of the sensors... they just don't work.

Unless you have a new bottom end and new top end removing the rev limiter really isn't a doog idea in my opinion.... Thats the way bearing get spun and rods get chucked... But just look around at the mustang boards they shoudl ahve a bunch that pop up... Try Venom and Jet, they both chips for cars... AFX made some as well but I'm not sure about 5.0's or 4.6's. But unless you have serious work done to the car removing the rev limiter really isn't that good of an idea.

That jerkoff should have known that a 5.0 bird (HO i'm guessing) could cream him. Those mid 90's grand prix's look fast-but they're slow as shit.

Ya, I will do some research before putting a chip in, I need to hear from someone who has done it and find out what the pro's and con's are. I think before that though, I really want to put a tranny kit in there and get some harder shifts going. The factory set shifting on that AOD sucks.

If you mod your trans you should use a higher stall torwu converter too, like a 2800-3200 prm stall, with a good set of gear like a 3.55 or 3.73 gearset in the rear you should be able to jump allot of stuff out of the hole. Then with exaust, itake, and maybe a computer, you should have a pretty mean car that you could drive everyday.

Ohh and solaris=amazing saying that the Gran Prix look fast but aren't is kinda mis-informend, I'm pretty sure they made the GTP's back then because I know they made the SSEi bonnevilles... I'm pretty sure they are just a bit slower off the line than the bird, but from a rolling start of like 30 or so I'm pretty sure the Grand Prix could win.....

Re: Finally, my first race with my new 93 5L.

You don't have to worry so much about the rev limiter as you do the governor. That thing can tach out at 5000+ rpm all day long and never have a problem. What you are trying to get past is the cut-out at about 112 mph. The chip will do this. But it is a good idea to upgrade your driveshaft before doing any high speed runs. The rest of the car, except for your tires (unless speed rated) will handle the higher speeds.
