Auto-Manual

Heres the deal my dad taught me how to drive on a 88 Chevy Silverado Stepside well anyways when it came time for me to buy my car... My step-dad was like NO STANDARD! i was like why? he said it was too much distraction well now im gonna go buy a used tranny(rebuild it maybe? yes or no?) its a 91 240SX what do i need just another 91-94 Manual Trans and the time to put it on? Or is there more to it?

He thinks driving a manual is distracting? I think it's the other way around, when you drive a manual, you have to pay attention, with an auto-pussy-matic, all you do is step on gas, dream about turbo kit, hit car, and you're screwed.

Re: Auto-Manual

There is a little more than just the tranny. You have to add the clutch pedal, lines, drive shaft, cross member, clutch, flywheel, shifter, both shift boots (rubber, leather). If you find a car in the junk yard it is better than trying to piece it together on EBAY.

Re: Auto-Manual

i think it would be easier to sell the auto and buy a manual. the conversion is alot of work and fabrication..

Re: Auto-Manual

I did my Auto to Manual swap during the Sr20DET swap, so the motor set cam with the most expensive pieces. Ebay is a good place to look for KA trannies, I sold one for $100, so with shipping it was $200. But the price keeps climing when you add clutch ($300?) Flywheel, and the stuff I mentioned before. I spent about $300 for other things when I did my swap, Clutch pedal, lines, slave cylendar, trim, driveshaft, crossmember.

my friend did his auto to manuel swap in the street!!! he has to swap tranny's, put a clutch in, drill holes in the firewall mount the clutch master cylinder in, put the clutch pedal assembly, route the clutch line, shorten the drive shaft. and hes done. however since the sensors don't fit, he has no speedo, and no reverse light.
