Greetings

hello everyone, i am a senior in highschool and half of my year is nearly over, i need some advice.

in school you know how they say that everyone has their strongpoints, well mine are in math and science. all math comes easily to me, with a good teacher, except calculus. i took pre-cal last year, did not do as well as i'd like and this year i am taking ap prob/stat, doing well in that class. my science this year is ap physics, third highest grade in the class. all my maths and sciences before this year have been good.

math and science being my strongpoints along with a very good, (comparitivly speaking to those in my agegroup), self taught knowledge of computers, i was seeking good fields to explore in college. i have not yet spoken with my guidance counselor on this subject. i plan on speaking with her but i just wanted to hear what you guys had to say.

thanks,
michael

ps if any additional information is needed, please let me know.

Re: Greetings

I would suggest economics and accounting areas, as well as programming are good fields to look at with those strengths.

Re: Greetings

If you decide on a computer related field, I would recommend you specialize. Many comuter jobs are becoming increasingly competitive and more difficult to obtain. At least that was my experience while living in Atlanta. The field is over-saturated right now. If following a computer field, specializing in certain areas where there is less competition is a good idea.

Math and science were also my stengths while in high school. If you like foreign languages, I was taking Japanese for a time in college and enjoyed it thoroughly. If you like building and designing things, electrical or civil engineering are good fields to consider. Perhaps even architecture.

Engineering is normally preferred for people with strong maths. Well physics too but you didn't mention that, and physics can be considered maths too.

If your doing computing, do something in IS. Comp science is quite full now and most work is being outsourced to countries such as India where they are good but cost is less to develop there then it is locally (in your case is America, for me its Australia).

But whatever it is, I recommand you do what you like, even though I know the Comp Science field is saturated, I still did it cause I know its something I'd like to do then anything else. If your truely good and enjoy doing what you do, finding a job won't be a problem.

For example right now I'm just doing contract work just after I graduated from Uni, so pretty much right now its not too bad, even got job interviews lined up dispite the saturated field. Good luck in your choices.
