Hi all. I'm getting my car completely repainted. Just wondering if anyone has any pointers on maintaining a brand new paint job. I want to keep it clean and nice and make it last the summer. Winter is here so ugh i'll most likely get a whole lotta snow here .... should i stay away from the snow/salt? k thx !

***Whoops i meant to post this thread under "Car Detailing". I'm a noob, sowwy :\.

In my opinion the way to best care for the paint is to wash mildly by hand once a week and if it is cold out alot (its - 25 celsius here right now) I would recomend drying the door jams every time so the weather strips dont freeze the doors shut. Paint conditioners are an excellent way to protect paint from road salt. I suggest since the paint is so new you should apply a paint sealant they last longer.

If you have a garage USE IT! in the summer time it is the worst when the rays of the suns put sun spots on your car. my cousin's prelude is the best explain b/c it looks like someone took sand paper and ran it in a alot of small spots and ran away.

Re: Paintjob Advice

Ok first off how recent is the paint job , because if its under 6 months old ,the paint is not fully cured yet and applying a wax is the worst thing you could do with fresh paint. the reason is the wax seals in all of the solvents that are still trying to escape( and yes it takes t least six months for this to happen some paint manufacturers recommend 1 year before using wax) if the solvents get trapped your paint will get microfine bubbles that eventually break open known as solvent popping . if that occurs your nice new paint job will no longer be nice. the best thing to do is wash frequently to get road salts off and on occasion use a silicone free hand glaze to keep the paint looking fresh stick with companies like 3M , Presto, names that are known and used in body shops .and make sure it is silicone free. after the six month period i suggest polishing and waxing it every 3 to 6 months and it will be fine but again use a quality wax. paint jobs are not cheap so dont make the mistake of buying cheap products that do nothing for the car.
