$$Engine Rebuilds$$

Hi, I'm 16 and I'm buying my first car in June when I get my liscense. Now I have $6000 to spend on it, and im looking at a 2nd gen RX-7 13b N/A. So because this will be my daily driver, I'm guessing I'll probably have to rebuild the engine once since i'll be putting a LOT of miles in it.

So my question is, how much do engine rebuilds usually cost for the 13b N/A s?

BTW I'm not gonna do the TII swap,(or buy a TII) even though thats what most people would do, because I don't want my first car to be a 200hp RWD since i'll have to get used to driving in general(following the road signs) and then i'll have to get used to driving a stickshift, which is pretty hard for someone that has A.D.D lol.

Re: $$Engine Rebuilds$$

getting a NA is a good idea, if you want to know about rebuilds or new engines just look here http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/

you won't exactly need a rebuild right away but you could always do it if you want... I'd say get it streetported if you rebuild it since the engine will already be opened up and its only $200 more... that adds 15-20hp though so thats up to you

Re: $$Engine Rebuilds$$

no joke, now that there is someone smart about their first car we have idiots telling him to get a TII just so he can go way too fast, lose control, and destroy another one of our great cars instead of taking it step by step so he'll be a better driver in the long run

Re: $$Engine Rebuilds$$

6000 is plenty for an FC. Of course even for a really good condition low mile FC you shouldn't pay more than 3500. With a bit of searching you'll surely find a nice one for cheap.

Re: $$Engine Rebuilds$$

yea then you will have plenty of extra money incase you need to fix anything or if you wanna do some reliability mods like an upgraded radiator or an electric fan... or even for a nice suspension, thats what I'd do atleast haha

dude a s4 tII has <200 hp.

i mean if he wanted a turbo rx7 then its better off in the long run to get one right off the bat.

sheesh, there's no rest for the wicked, i swear.

Re: $$Engine Rebuilds$$

yea its under 200hp, but it has boost, its just not the best idea for someone that doesn't even know how to drive very well yet

Well turbo also means more insurance, and more parts that might need to be repaired/replaced. And besides, I wanna learn how to do most of the work on the car myself, and for that I need a very simple engine, and thats what a I love about the rotary.
And as far as performance goes, I'll probably be satisfied with about 200hp, which I hope to make with aftermarket parts rather than have it right out of the box.
