240sx buyer

what up guyz, im 15 and im gettin my car and license soon and mayb even in that order but i love the 240sx s-14, that what i want and thats what imj probably going to be gettin and so far what ive learned about them has been almost all good except for the few exceptions of course. My question is, is the sr20det engine swap needed right away?because doesnt the s-14 already come with a pretty nice engine and also what kind of availability am i lookin at for the engine and cost, and most importantly performance werthy(is it?)i read about it and it comes with 220whp i believe and im lookin at boosting it to sumwhere in the 300's+.Is that even going to b possible with this engine and if so how and how much becuz im only 15 and my budget isnt exactly whatu would call incredible but its not horrible either by any means. Also what suspension modz are there for the 240? becuz i kno its a drifter but can it b made to run in the low 12'z high 11'z?(for me anyway on a low-medium budget?)is the sr20det a powerplant of an engine?? I would also like to make this a real nice car and not a typical everyday too big rimmed shyty riced civic for sure.Im looking for sum unique in my ride so if i could get sum more info on this car it would b appreciated a bunch thnks guyz(1997-98 black 5 spd is the goal car)

Re: 240sx buyer

your only 15 and you want a 300hp car?? goodluck! The ka24de is the engine that it has in it which is a fine engine IMO, but i would rather turbo that than get a sr20det and swap it. Are you a mechanic or is your dad? or anyone you know that will do the swap for you? It takes alot of work and is going to be pretty pricey. I would try to find the car you are looking for then put togethor a turbo kit, but for only being 15 you sound kinda young to be drving turbo for your first car....

Goodluck with everything and hope it all works out...

thats a damn nice dream.. hate to tell you but this is what reality is:

the car itself when you buy it, unless you find one without a motor, is gonna be atleast $5000
the sr20det is about $5000
insurance is probably gonna be $3000 per year
gas is a bitch
if you want a life then you won't have any money left to support that..

so unless you have $15000 to spend in the next few months then look for a 95-96 with high mileage or even get an s13.. i have an s13 (93 240SX) and its amazing.. including insurance, i've spent about $10000 in the past 4 months, before mods and gas.. cars are expensive, they take a lot more than people think

try doing some reading on these cars before you buy them too.. just so you understand what kind of machine you're purchasing.. i know its long but its always interesting when it comes to these cars

Oook

lets drop the fact that he wants the new engine and wants to turbo it! The fact that hes going to have an 97-98 S14 at the age of like 15 3/4 possibly is freaking awesome enough!

Re: 240sx buyer

true, i was merely noting the idea in entirety.. i'd be surprised if he ended up with nothing more than a half decent s13 with minor bolt ons in the first year

Re: 240sx buyer

and on a low/medium budget high 11's/12's will take a long time to achieve...like d-bo said...plan on spending some $$ bucks to even get you into the low 13's...(haha traction problems for me anyways)...but then again it is a nice dream...if you got the money go for it...work hard get what you want...

We're all out of put-downs because there's so many losers who come in, you're lucky you caught us before we could think of new stuff to insult you with.

Anyways, if you want a drag car, most people say turbo the KA, for suspension mods, everything is available, you can buy shocks and springs seperatly, or full coilovers, you can have a street, drag, drift, auto-x setup, anything you want, these are pretty versatile cars.

It's an engine code. I'll list the comon 240SX engines.

These came with the car:

KA24E: 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter, single overhead cam engine, came in 1989-1990 models. 130hp

KA24DE: 4 cylinder, 2.4 liter, dual overhead cam engine, came in 1991-1998 models. 155hp

These can be swapped in:

CA18DE: 4 cylinder, 1.8 liter, dual overhead cam, came in early JDM(japanese domestic market) Silvia and 180SX. 130hp

CA18DET: Same as above, but with a turbocharger. 170hp

SR20DE: 4 cylinder, 2 liter, dual overhead cam, came in all Silvia and 180SX models after 1991 or so. 160hp

SR20DET: Same as above, but with a turbocharger. S13: 200hp S14: 215hp S15: 250hp

RB20DE: Straight 6 cylinder, 2 liter, DOHC, came in R32 Skyline GTS models. 155hp

RB20DET: Same as above, but with turbo, came in R32 GTS-T models. 215hp

RB25DE: Straight 6 cylinder, 2.5 liter, DOHC, came in R32 GTS25, R33 and R34 GTS models. 190hp

RB25DET: Same as above, but with a turbo, came in GTS-T models. 250hp

RB26DETT: Straight 6 cylinder, 2.6 liter, DOHC, twin-turbo, came in R32, R33 and R34 Skylines GT-R models. (Mated to RB25DET tranny for install in 240SX) Over 300hp. 281hp before removal of limiting shit.

Oh and I typed this all out, unlike some fake-fans (I won'T name anyone) who copy-pasted from other sites. lol

Re: 240sx buyer

you have to be madman mechanic to get the rb26 in the 240 tho I would stick towards the turboing the KA24DE, swapping in a sr20det, or maybe swapping in the CA18DET or RB20DET... These will all take lots of money to do...Put togethor a turbo kit like some of us are doing on here (dont be scared to ask questions) and start out running it at like 5psi and as you get older and learn more bumb up the boost a little bit...

Re: 240sx buyer

Try doing intake, exhaust, clutch, lsd, and maybe cooling mods first. This will allow you to give yourself a test without risking your engine or anything else. Most of this stuff is pretty easy. Besides that, it is all useful if you decide to turbo. I have been obsessed with my 240 for about a year and three months. I can honestly say I am glad I waited to put my turbo kit on. I would have blown some shit up if I would have tried to put it on six months ago. Just go look at some of my posts
