Hi everyone. For the past couple days now I've been experience a pretty noticeable screeching/whining sound the second I turn the ignition on with the clutch depressed. It goes away when I raise the clutch but today it actually continued a few more seconds after I raised the clutch. Could it be a throwout bearing? It only makes this sound when starting the car up. It's been getting quite cold up here lately so could that be a reason? Recently got the car about 3 weeks ago from a Mitsu dealership. Hope I haven't already messed something up. Got a warranty on it but to use it already would be quite embarrassing, heh. It's a 98 Talon TSI AWD. I'm new to the DSM market so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Screeching/whining sound when starting up
Same problem, i took it to my local performance shop and its my alternator. it shouldnt do it just when the clutch is down though. maybe it just seems like it because its down when u r starting it up.

Re: Screeching/whining sound when starting up
Check to see if the crank pulley wobbles as well.

Re: Screeching/whining sound when starting up
it sounds like either a bad belt or a loose belt.

I'd have to say belt too.

Re: Screeching/whining sound when starting up
It is possible that it could be your power steering pump. Try spraying some kind of lube in between where the pulley for the powersteering meets the pump. If the squeeking goes away, then you've found your problem. If that doesn't work, tighten your belts.

might wanna try to replace the belt. if the belt is your problem, it should squeel if you rev the car real hard.
