Engine Questions

Notice how the headers all the paint is chipping off and looks really bad.. how can you get them .. chrome.. and shiny..? Im not good with engine area.. so bare with me.

Also all the plugs and everything.. i want to change the color of them.. to like a blue.. does anyone know where I can find them at..?

One last thing, to clean out your engine area to make it shiny and what not.. can i just use regular degreaser..?

Re: Engine Questions

Well for some reason, I can't see the pic you posted...but I know on my honda header...they came painted black and within 50 miles the paint burnt off, and now they are white/rusty...nothing that I know of that will change that.

As far as colored plugs...I assume you mean the wires, as plugs aren't colored...check out the shop sites in the FAQ, like 3sxperformance.com, and look for engine dress-up kits...typically they have colored wires, or colored tubes you can wrap wires, vacuum lines and stuff in, to make everything more colorful.

Lastly, as far as making you engine shiny...get engine degreaser, and go to a local do-it-yourself car wash with power washer...spray the degreaser liberally, but keep it away from electric stuff like distributor cap, plugs, etc. Then use the power washer to spray it all off...just be careful...I did it on my engine and it removed a bit of the paint on one of the valve covers and the oil cap.
Oh, also get a plastic bag and a large rubberband and seal up your entire intake...so no water gets in there either.

Do you mean the paint chipping off the intake plenum? I see it badly chipping off of that....or do you mean the heatshield covering the front exhaust manifold?

-If you meant the plenum, i cleaned mine off by taking a razorblade and gently peeling off the main pieces and then i went over that with a wire brush. It comes pretty good. But if you want, for $150 you can get a new one thats chromed. There is a core charge on it though (you have to give them your old one or else they charge you more money.) You can get them on 3sxperformance.com

-If you meant the heatshield-you can take it off and clean it up, and then spray it with high heat paint.

Re: Engine Questions

to get colored wires, or dress up your engine, there's a few ways of doing it.

while your at it you might as well get some spark plug wires in the color that you prefer which i think you said blue(funny thing is, mine are blue). some people get everything chromed out or like igovert500 said you get the material to wrap over it to the point it would look like the original tube.

you can try these guys out as they don't seem to be to far from you

Re: Engine Questions

about the header cover, mine looked like that, just sand off the rust and smooth out the whole piece. then get some silver VHT high temp paint from autozone and put a few coats of that on it,mine is still holding up. u can also use the same paint on the plenum, thats what i used on mine. looks a lot better than that brown coat that peals off

check out the link in my sig.
