timing advance or retard

just timed my d16z6. the red line was over an inch to the right of the pointer, was that .... an advance or retard timing? now its on the money and runs a lot smoother.

to the right if looking at it from the driver's side is a timing retard i believe.

yea from the drivers side. any second opinions on that? if it's a retard that would explain my poor gas mileage and rich fuel mixture that i had.

If you look at it from standing infront of your car. Turning it towards the firewall is advancing the timing. Turning it towards you is retard.

Or if you are standing on the passenger side. Counter clockwise is advanced. Clockwise is retard.

hold on people, r u talking about the dizzy or the crank pulley timing marks? that'll make a big difference. which one u referring to AEM??

yeah on rereading it, it sounded like u were talkin about the crank pulley. so GScivic u'r right

u'r both right. when looking at the crank pulley if the mark is past the pointer the timing is retarded, and to fix it, u advance the timing by turning the dizzy toward the firewall.

yea hondaluvr, we got it. it was retard. i had a high fuel mixture and failed my state emissions the other wek and had poor gas mileage. it's all good now tho.
