Re: V8

Gear ratios, aerodynamic modifications, frame reinforcement, supercharger compression ratio, exhaust type, computer mods, total unibody weight, all will effect the outcome of a 1/4 mile race. If your goal here is to get a "ten second car" out of this, you'll probably need at least $20,000 to pull it off. Just a side note, and trust me on this one, no matter what people may say, no car that covers 1,320 feet in under 10 seconds is street legal.

74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Re: V8

I think a street legal 10 second car is possible. Probably a little harder to do with the fiero though. You'd have to get some really wide street legal tires to get enough traction to do it, so fitting them under the fiero would take a really wide body kit to even come close to working. Nothing is impossible though! I've seen some street legal 10 second camaros, corvettes, and mustangs.....but i'm sure they all had well over 50k invested in them.

Don't confuse street legal with emissions legal. Its possible to have a street legal 9 second ride. Lots of money in it, but its entirely possible.

A Fiero with a supercharged LS1 transplant (has it even been done yet?) would probably run high 11's. I don't know what you'd use for a transmission though because I don't know of any FWD transmission that will bolt up to the LS1. Though I'm sure a transmission that will bolt up exists I just don't know what it is. A Northstar or standard SBC swap would probably work better.

It would be easy to get a Fiero into the 12's with a mild 350 swap. A radical 350, or 400 would net down to the 9 second territory with the right parts.

if we can run 14's with a stock 2.8 in a 1986 gt fast back with the muncie 4 speed, how do you figure that a fiero with a semi-stock 350 could only run 11's, to start with you are your going from 150 hp to 350 with out the nos which is another 100 horse.

Re: V8

14 second quarter mile with a STOCK 2.8?! Are you sure your quarter mile is not downhill? A stock Fiero will only do about 16 seconds flat....less than that and I'd say you had a good run. It takes a lot of horsepower to knock off 1 second....let alone 5 or 6. Double the horsepower doesn't equal half the time.

Here's a calculator that seems fairly accurate. http://www.battleoftheimports.com/cl...battlecalc.htm

Re: V8

Well, my '86 SE went 14.90 with stock everything, and the 4 speed. A good friend had a GT at the same time with the 5-speed. He was in the low 15s. I believe the gear spacing in the 4-speed may be a bit more 1/4 mile friendly.
The Ferncliff Flash (Dave's Auto Parts, Ferncliff, VA) has an '88, modified with a 455 Pontiac and TH325. It actually went in rather nicely! With 8:1 on 87 octane, mild cam and not much else, it goes 10.90s. Traction is not near the issue gearing is. The only gearsets he could find were 2.92s and 3.15s. It wasn't even starting to leg out in 2nd gear at the end of the 1/4. But the car dirves like a Fiero, even with the big motor. The only hchange to the chassis was to drop the front 1", and install Moser axles, so it would quick breaking the stock Caddy AND Fiero versions. He calls it "Fear Arrow". Animalistic, to say the least, and ALL Pontiac!
The 3800SC swap is the current rage. The Northstar is another very popular install. The V8 "kits" for Chevy engines use the TH125. Not much hope for it to live behind anything with any serious power. I believe, if one were to apply themselves (and their wallet), a TH425 and a 396 would be an excellent combo. No need for the mountain motors, as the car isn't that heavy, and chassis geometry makes the whole thing throw all those laws everyone is so congnicent of, out the window. Even Moroso admitted Fiero made their horsepower calculator ineffective, as the chassis was so unconventional. I recall that from a road test where the car went faster than the math said it was capable of going. The chassis was the only "wild card".
