Unhappy Automatic transmission noise

I just relaced the engine from a junk yard in my '96 Geo Metro 1.3L,4 cly.,automatic transmission.
The engine runs great, but when I was installing the motor I used the housing bolts to pull the engine and transmission together.
The torque converter was'nt seated and I think I put too much pressure on the bolts forcing the two together.
The engine was locked up and could not turn with a wrench on the crankshaft pulley.
I unbolted and lifted the engine back out and set the torque converter back in place, then bolted the engine back in.
Now I have a noise.
It only happens when you put the transmission in drive or reverse at idle only, not when cruising.
The transmission works fine except for the noise in drive at idle.
It stops when you put it in park or neutral.
The noise sounds like a power steering pump with low oil.
I checked the oil level, hot and cold,OK.
Could I have hurt the torque converter, the transmission shafts, or bearings?
If anyone knows of a '96 Geo Metro automatic transmission repair and troubleshooting manual, please let me know.
Thanx

Re: Automatic transmission noise

My guess would be that you dented, scratched or bent the torque converter when you forced the bolts in without fully seating it, but I'm guessing you already guessed that. You're pretty much guarenteed to have to take it apart again anyway, so when you do, inspect the face of the converter for dings and scuffs, and replace it if it shows damage.
