Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

it should be amazing, the gt28rs is what will eventually be going on my mk1.5. the problem, is that if you want to do it CORRECTLY it will cost around 5,000 usd.

i'm looking for 300-350 rwhp and a flat torque curve, and this should do the trick

but be wary, the disco potato is the gt28rs, not the gt28

We mapped out my motor last night to a GT28RS compressor map, and it sits at 80% effiency!

But what do you mean "if its done right"?? I found a GT28RS for 1,055 dollars. The only thing i imagine ill need is an exhaust, aussie 3" downpipe, and some type of manifold or adapter plate to make it fit to the manifold/02 housing properly...

Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

done right: EMS, new fuel system, exhaust, custom manifold, boost controller, the turbo itself, dyno time...

unless of course you just want lots of inefficient power for a short period of time. there is more to it than just slapping on a turbo.

Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

why is all that necessary? i don't think that you need a stand alone to do a simple t28 turbo upgrade. fuel and a piggy back, intake and exhaust, boost controller should be enough to get to 300 hp.

Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

200SXGTi-R, yes you can get 300 rwhp with a turbo upgraded an piggy back, but you will never reap the full benefits of the system with piggybacks.

The "disco potato" has a great reputation, but is largely unporven in the MR2 world. I have not seen any "amazing" results from this turbo on an MR2 that would make me pick it over other, similar options.

Jeckyle, what would you pick if you were building a road-racing car? I want something with TORQUE and RESPONSE.

Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

From what I have seen, I would look at the T3T4 that comes in KO Racing's Street Brawler kit which happens to be the same turbo the comesin Bill $nocash$'s turbo kit.

That turbo is similar to mine, but has even better spool. Honestly, as "bastardized" as my tubo is, I am quite pleased with it ... how could I not be?

Have you seen the in-car hill climb videos of me racing Hyde? (if not, buy my DVD and watch it bigger than the little Internet videos I have on my site)

Shameless plug

Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

For the record, I am not "discounting" the worth of the "disco potato." It may be the best thing since sliced bread ... but I have not seen anything to make me believe that beyond "claims" all over the place.

Re: Disco Potato (Garrett T28) on 3SGTE?

i agree with you jeff, an ems will always bring out the best in whatever you put it on...even stock setup. the SR20engine i had came stock with the garret T28 which is similar but a little less potent than the disco potatoe. alot guys did the upgrade since it was effortless and they said it was not wothj the money for the difference they felt. so i was never big on the disco potatoe. but i guess its ok for road racing.
