Hooking up an aux input for ipod?

I have a 97 EX Coupe and i'm about to invest in an ipod. Does anyone know a good way to wire up and aux input to the stock stereo? I'd just like to have a mini plug I could plug the ipod into. Anyone done this before?

I know theres an FM transmitter for the ipod but it looks pretty crappy.

if you have a cassette player you could use one of those car adapters for cd players. My uncle did that for a while before he got a head unit with an aux input.

For my satalite radio i used the casette adapter but because i didnt want to see the wires i opened up to radio took out the casette player put the tape in it then put the player back into the radio and ran the wire out the back, that way i didnt have the wires in front and it looked like there wasnt even a tape in there. i have had no noticeable problem with sound quality

Yeah but I have a CD player which is why I want to know how to set up an extra input. I wouldn't mind just having a mini strung out from the back. I've heard of just splicing into the cables from the CD player (its kinda seperate from the head unit) and playing a CD to make the head unit think its running a disc. Any way to do this?

Yes and no yes you can do that, but if u plan on keeping ur cd player usable you will need a CD that isnt blank but has 1 track with no sound. my advice is just get the fm modulator...u can get some real cheap that will do u just fine, it will install inline your antenea, simple plug in install

ok, ok aparently you guys have'nt looked into this much as I have... If you have the stock honda factory CD player with the input in the rear for an external Tape deck or CD changer.. you can get a hold of a modulated hookup that comes directly out of this plug in the rear of your deck, has a small box with conversion circuitry to fool your deck into thinking it has a CD changer hooked to it.. and converts it into a mini plug for your MP3 player.. I'll take a look and see if I can find it... have'nt looked at it for a while as I am getting rid of my stock deck. If I remember correctly it costed around $60.

there it is... well this one is $185 but it's clean and powers your ipod directly from the head unit. I'll see if I can find the other one that was cheaper.

with the second one you need an RCA to mini plug adapter which you can get for $4 at radioshack

Ok so if I bought that cable in the second link, pulled off the CD player cable attached to the headunit and plugged this one in i'd be ready to go? Or is there more to it? I don't know anything about audio, keep it simple for me :P.

the second link I posted you take your stock deck out... plug in the end of the cable that matches for your CD changer input (all honda decks newer than 95 have this). and then feed the other end of the cable down through the decks consol, and it'll pop out on the passenger side (you'll see when you have the deck out) and then just make sure you have enough slack to put the ipod where-ever you want the iPod to be when playing. **** I recommend you get some nonskid rubber mat to put it on, or get some velcro... (cuts down on vibration, and dropping it in a hard turn)*****
