Ls Turbo questions
Alright i have a few questions that i just cant seem to find, though ive read a good chunk of the threads on this forum. I plan on buying an 96 integra se very soon and i have a number of questions about f/i and the internals of the ls.
I dont have a lot of money, so everyone says "Go ls, turbo; or ls vtec" i dont want the frankenstein setup because or realiablity issues, so dont respond with that. Since F/I is the only logical alternative i want to know where i can find a list of parts ill need to build a turbo kit... i dont want to spend a grand more on a pre-fab one, so what do i need for it... 2nd question, what are the components of the turbo that make the most difference in getting quatity... or basically whats the difference between the 800 dollar ebay kits and the pre-fab ones from rev hard?... the compressor? exhaust manifold? i mean what am i looking for? 3rd... in basically every thread with ls turbo it goes like this... ive got an ls, i want it fast and i dont have money... responder: go f/i then in the same or another thread hey i want to go f/i responder: get some new rods and pistons... etc. so should i just get a turbo and run it at 4psi then crank it up to like 7-8 when i want too... will let lower my realiability a ton... and what does "lower realiability mean" is that its gonna go in 10k miles? or in 40k? SO should i get some rods and pistons, and if i do can i swap them from another b series? or get some eagle rods and other pistons... keeping in mind that i dont want to spend over 1k on internals. preferably 600-700... sorry this is long but in short i want a about 200hp and decent realiability between in a turbo and internals for about 2500 on parts. |

Ok 1st bit of advice I can give you is that if you don't know enough about what you need then you will be better off buying a kit form Revhard or any other turbo company. But I know that you most likely want to build it yourself so here is a small list of parts you need to start gathering:
Exhaust manifold Turbo Wastegate BOV Charge pipes Down pipe Braided hose and fittings for the oil supply and oil return Fuel Management (this is probably the most important aspect of the kit) I would get a Hondata and some larger injectors along with a larger fuel pump. This is one of the best methods of FM that I know of for the cost. The cheap FMU that are boost controlled to increase the fuel pressure are crapy IMHO. An aftermarket exhaust is going to be needed to give optimum performance. For 200bhp you can probably run around 6-8 psi and easily see that. But as far as 200whp you might need more boost. The LS bottom end has been known to hold upwards of 14psi safely, but I would stick to the 8psi daily and maybe 12psi track. I am kinda in a little hurry here so I might have left some things out. There are more members here that can fill in anything that i am missing, and if not I will fill it in later when I get back home.

alright i had all those parts down... i just wanted to make sure there isnt little things that i missed. mainly i just want like someone to answer questions about the quality issues or turbo parts.. in some depth.. and the reliability, and the rods and the pistons or just internals in general... like suggested ones that i can do for cheaper. I do know about the exhaust and intercooler.... dont worry...
