trans problem

i have a brand new trans and it keeps popping out of 5th gear, and only fifth gear. it seems to be fine when im on regular roads but when i get on the express way it does it. at about 75 or 80mph, 4 to 5 rpms. would it be a trans problem or linkange or something else?

Re: trans problem

Might be a linkage problem. Did you replace the bushings in the linkage? If not then I would inspect them for any kind of wear and tear.

Re: trans problem

Synchros should not be the problem, they help the gear ingauge but they don't do anything to keep it in gear I don't think. Could be wrong as I am far from a Transmission expert LOL.

i found out that it will stay in gear if i wiggle the shifter, in a circle, as i drive. but when i stop it will come out. and i think sometimes it goes back into neutral and once it went farther forward.

Re: trans problem

worn or not properly adjusting the linkage, there may be dirt between the clutch cover and engine block, the transaxle could be loose, or the shift fork is loose.

Re: trans problem

*shrugs* i dread the day (if it ever comes) when i actually need a "new" tranny. Seems like even the rebuilt ones are shitty. I have a friend, and im seriously not exagurating on this, needed a new tranny and after 5 (FIVE!@#!!@#!!!) trannies were put in he got a perfect one. kept goin back to the shop telling them to re-do it....
