Re: Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest

for some reason that page will not load for me. was the area protected or private? if it was a protected area, then maybe there could have been certain pesticides, herbicides, added nitrates or phosphates to the soil that they were guarding against. i have no clue. now i want to read the darn thing.

I agree, a fine would be ok in a case like this.

Re: Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest

ah, after reading the page i completely rest my case. as i have stated, unless the soil was checked for these stated chemicals, then i believe they were in the wrong to dump that dirt. even a small amount of nitrate or phosphate could du severe damage to any area especially nearby a lake.

for those that dont know, nitrate and phosphate are nutrients needed by plants to grow. because of the addition of fertilizer, an entire ecosystem could be thrown outta wack because of abnormal growth.

read up on what the addition of fertilizer could do to a lake. it gets messy pretty fast.

eh, arresting may be a little over the top.

Re: Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest

I don't have a problem with the idea of dumping the dirt ... however ... it is on federal property. And that's where it gets dicey ...

What's wrong with dumping it in your own yard?

It's just stupid, give them a $100 fine, but jail? Come on.

Its a message for their new campaign against dumping shit in Forest Preserves:

"These men got arrested for dumping DIRT in our preserve - just think what you'll get for dumping trash in it!"

Re: Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest

It is another hefty punishment just like that sunflower seed one. But, has anyone ever found any description of the men, or the description of the woman in the sunflower one? This may sound a bit far-fetched but, is it a possibility that the reason for heftier punishments includes racial profiling? It maybe a factor involved in some recorded crimes such as these. I did a report on racial profiling when I was in 7th grade, and it's what led me to propose the possibility. It's an idea, and prolly wrong but......insight on this would help me clear this one up

Re: Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest

I worked as a manager in construction for 5 years and I'll tell you, legally getting rid of dirt or soil is difficult.....you need environmental tests before you can dump it at a authorised site. Also, lots of fill that is dug up is contaminated by chemicals. For every illegal dumping they catch there's about 10,000 illegal ones. Brief jail time is reasonable.....make an example of them.
