Thinks a Door is open! Help
Hi,
I am so glad I found this place, my 98 Sable thinks a door is open! The interior light stays on and the little icon on the dash has a picture of a car with all 4 doors open. I had to have someone remove the interior light and disconect it because my battery will go dead. Does anyone know what it is? How much it is? This is my boyfriends car and I have been driving it for 4 years, he will kill me if anything is wrong with the car, so I really need someones help asap... Thanks so much |

Re: Thinks a Door is open! Help
every Gen 3 does this, spray WD40 into the latch mechanisms and it usually goes away.

My sable does the same thing. I can open and close the doors as many times as i want the light stays on. If I get in and start the car and turn it off it will go out when I get out. Haven't had time to dig into the cause yet.

There is a door pin switch on all 4 doors mounted on the latch. They go badd all the time. Usually it is the drivers door because it is used most og the time. You need to remove the door panel and the switch is 1/4 turn twisted into the bottom of the door latch. They are about 13 dollars at Ford or Mercury dealers. Back door are a paint to get to.

wd-40 does the trick
there are a couple post on this and several people (including myself) have used the wd 40 in the lock trick to fix it just use the small tube on the wd40 to soak down the inside of the door lock on the door jam 2-3 time and it should go away.
