HEADERS (yes the car has only one)

I have been hearing so many mixed things about different exhaust headers. I want to get a header for my car (1998 GSR, only mods AEM CAI, NGK plugs and wires). I have heard really mixed things about the DC headers. I was hoping to spend about $350 on a header for the car. I have looked at the greddy header, the dc 4-2-1 header, the comptech header (somewhat expensive). I guess I am asking for advice on what will be my best investment, and what will give me the better gains for 350 or 300 dollars. Is a 4-2-1 header better for a daily driver? or will I see that much more speed from a 4-1 header? Thanks guys, been confused for a while on this subject.

Re: HEADERS (yes the car has only one)

The dyno pics aren't working for me right now, but I read up on that. Good information. I am thinking that the DC 4-1 header would be best for me because of its cost, and good performance for that cost. Let me know if I am making a stupid choice.

On another note, how hard is it to install a one piece header.... How does one get it in the right position? Do you have to come in from the bottom of the car?

4-1 is what I wish I would have gone with. And yes you go in from the bottom at an angle.

Re: HEADERS (yes the car has only one)

i think greddy headers give more power than dc. dc collector is only 2.5, but for $250, can't complain about mine.

Re: HEADERS (yes the car has only one)

What about ceramic vs. stainless. The shorthand that I heard was, stainless for looks, ceramic for better head dissipation. So for power, ceramic better.

Re: HEADERS (yes the car has only one)

Are you planning to ever use Nitrous? If so go SS if not then get the CC. The nitrous will damage the Ceramic coating on the CC header.

Excellent, not ever planning on putting nitrous in the car, so I shall continue with my plan for the cc header.

to install a 1 piece 4-1 header, u will need to remove the two 12mm bolts on the clutch slave cylinder and move it out of the way. also the radiator fan might be in the way. i didnt want to remove the fan so i just used a box cutter and shaved off a little peice of the plastic cover on the fan shroud that was hitting the header. after that the header went in fine.

the 4-1 will flow good with the GSR motor
oh and dont spend so much on the header. ebay sells DC header brand new for $250 shipped. i buy ALL my parts from ebay. great dealz

You can't see the damage as it is inside the tubes. DC Sports coats their headers inside and out in Ceramic, it makes the flow more efficient. The nitrous will gradually eat away at the ceramic. It won't hurt the outside, just the inside. Also the warranty on the Dc Sports Ceramic Coated headers states that your warranty is void if you have used nitrous with the header.
