Question 96/95 engine swap

I Am Putting A 96 Sl2 Engine In My 95 Sl2. I Am Aware Of Replacing The Valve Cover, But I Have Found A Couple Other Differences. The Coil Packs Do No Matchs, The 96 Has One Connector, And The 95 Has Two. This Is No Big Deal, I Will Use The 95 Coil. The 95 Has Two Sensors On The Drivers Side Of The Head, The 96 Only Has One. This Concerns Me.

Does Anyone Know If The Top Driver Side Sensor In The Head Is The Cam Sensor?

The 96 Oxygen Sensor Was Back By The Cat, But I Have Yet To Find The 95 Oxygen Sensor. I Know It Has To Be Around Somewhere.

Has Anyone Ever Put A 96 Motor In A 95? I Would Appreciate Any Insight.

Thanks

Re: 96/95 engine swap

frist, this is the LS forum, not the SL forum, but no big deal, you are not the first to make that misstake.

the 95 engine uses OBD-1, the 96 uses OBD-2.

the 95 engine has two engine temp sensors, one for the PCM, one for the gauge. the 96 uses one temp sensor and the PCM relays the information to the gauge. in general, the best/easist thing to do when using a 96+ head with a 91-95 PCM is to drill and tap a new hole for the extra sensor. this guy did, but with a SOHC head - http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/sho...hp/photo/16097. since you have everything out and apart anyway, i recommend replacing the ECT with the redesigned OEM brass-tipped ECT, if you do a search on this board you will learn of the many down falls of the old design.

there is no cam sensor on the 1.9 for any year, OBD-2 engines have a cam signal but no cam sensor(long story)

the 95 uses one O2 sensor, in the manifold
the 96 uses two O2 sensors, one in the manifold, the other behind the cat.
when using the 95 PCM no rear O2 is needed
