front end replacement?balljoints/rods/etc.

i went to a firestone dealer the otherday for a balance.
they told me i needed a whole new front end....from
ball joints to rods....everything.
they said its almost 1000k worth of work!! owwzaaa!!
now i understand that i have 141k on the truck and thats kinda high.
however theres no vibrations...sounds...shakes or uneven wearing on my front tires.
atleast 75% of the millage is highway and the truck was never off roaded.
also it drives perfectly straight and doesnt sway side to side at all.
are they tring to hose me or am i indanger of my wheels falling off

some input would be appreciated

you could always go for a second opinion..but if you never greased the truck I have a feeling that FS is on the money...If you are handy and have the right tools and a chilton book, you could get away with about a 300$ bill...you can even rent some of the tools from autozone if need be

Somebody (at Firestone) has a boat payment coming up.

It doesn't sound like you're in emminent danger of losing any wheels.
My local dealer pulled the same crap on me when I had my truck in for a recall on the lower ball joints. At 24,000 miles, he said "The upper ball joints are rusted in place, it looks like they should be replaced" at a cost of $300.00 to me. This was a total load of crap, as the truck is well maintained, greased and oil changes well before recommended intervals.
That was 3 years ago, and the uppers are holding up fine. Just keep them well lubed.

For your own piece of mind (and safety), get a second opinion as mentioned above.
Mike

Do not trust Firestone. They are scam artists. Find a shop you trust and build a good relationship with them.

Re: front end replacement?balljoints/rods/etc.

If you are not pulling, hear no clunking, and no uneven tire wear, you don't need any work done.

Tell them to stick their scam up their ass.

Just grease the 11 grease fitting on your front end. Do it yourself, it is obvious by their tactics that they won't do it.

Re: front end replacement?balljoints/rods/etc.

If it does that, you don't require work.

Remeber to grease everything.

Take 15 minutes to grease all 11 grease fittings.
