Depends on how old you are. If you're 16, you have no chance. But if you're like 30, just go to court, say you're sorry to the judge, explain your situation, and see if he can do something about it.

i'm thinking she was wrong because i got popped for going 44 in a 25 when i was 17 and the fine, including court costs, came out to $77. had to go to a class and got the lisence suspension too (all for my first speeding ticket in the middle of the night ), but $200 for 16 over seems way too high.

Depends where you live...my personal philosophy is to go to court on every ticket...

I don't know if you county has a DA or if you talk to the cop and try and cut deals...but if you go to court, you should be able to get the fine reduced...as a 16 year old, far more important than that $200, is your future insurance rates...they will screw you for thousands...go to court, explain that you were being stupid, plead no contest or whatever admit guilt and ask the officer or DA if there is any way to get it reduced.

Typically, the courts are so busy, they like to cut down to the chase...they will cut you a deal if it saves them time.

Re: might be getting *@#$ed

Most courts in Texas are now accepting online traffic school and the ticket does not go on your record. This is probably your best option in order to keep your insurance premiums from taking a jump. You will still have to pay the fine.

Your other option is to show up and see if they offer anything else. If not you can still ask for traffic school. Here is a link

Try to understand most speed limits are set WAY too low. Therefore most fines are used for revenue generation, not because you did something wrong.

Exactly. Especially on motorways or highways as you call them they are just a way to rip you of. Nobody's gonna die if they go 100mph in a stretch of road in the middle of nowhere.

hmm, beg to differ. I agree with you on the "rip you off" part but picture your 16 year old brother/cousin going 100 on a freeway.

That's a whole different subject you open here! Yes there's an age issue. One possible solution might be that there should be some kind of gradual introduction to types of cars and roads you can use depending on age and experience. I am sure that would upset alot of people in these forums! I don't even know if there's any place on earth that there is such a system......

that says it best. Maybe along with admitting that it was stupid, tell the judge that you were about to crap yourself, and it would have been a test of futility to drive the speed limit, but still, you learned your lesson, that you should always crap before driving, that way you can drive safely according to all local traffic regulations.
