Braking Problem

I took my car in to have new struts put on it. They informed me my brakes were low. I told them no as I can do that myself. When I got home I went to the auto store and bought some new shoes for the front. I then proceeded to take the tire off and remove one of the bolts from the caliper and flip it up. I then removed the pads and found out that I still had 60% left. I then put the shoes back on the way I took them off and flipped the caliper back down and Bolted it back in.

Now when I drive I here a rythmic rubbing. The faster I go the faster it "skips" When I hit the brakes it goes shish shish shiiish shiiiiiiiish shiiiiiiiish shiiiiiiiiiiiiiish and the car stops. It almost sounds like something is grinding. What could I have possibly done by taking them off and putting them back on?? Thanks

I put the springs back and the shims and everything. I bolted the caliper back on pretty tight. Can't think of what else caused it. The Caliper slapped right back on. So it just baffles me.

"rythmic rubbing"
- now what could that be. Sounbite imagination processor at work...

"shish shish shiiish shiiiiiiiish shiiiiiiiish shiiiiiiiiiiiiiish"
- This is familiar sound... Annoying but not threatening. Rust pieces fell between pads, metal clips not really fitting =scraping. Just drive. In January open 'em if continues...

In one peugeot I had to install extra springs making tension to the metal mudshield plates. Time to time they started wibrating and 'singing' -only on foggy conditions.

Sounds like the pad antisqueal shim{thin metal shield on back of pads} is out of place or the backing plate is out of position rubbing on the rotor.
