I finally got me hubby to come here and ask for some help. I wrote a few weeks ago. He just posted his name is Drew B. Those who helped before, please read it is a follow up to all that we have done and was suggested thus far. Thank you
Post I've got a 1996 Taurus with a 6 cyl 3.0L DOHC. A few weeks ago it started running rough. I'd had some problems ever since I got it with it stalling when it gets low on fuel, so I decided to change the fuel filter. This helped it a bit, but didn't solve the problem. The check engine light was coming on, so I had the codes checked. It came back with P0301 and P0302, cylinder 1 & 2 misfiring. So I decided to change the plugs and wires. The plugs were burnt out, but the wires still looked to be in good condition. After changing them and reseting the computer, it seemed to run pretty good for a few miles. Then the check engine light came back on and it started running rough and missing again. In addition, the brakes were giving problems and the transmission began shifting erratically like it had a vacuum leak. I checked all the hoses that I could see and checked the gasket on the intake manifold (since I had to take it off to replace the plugs). There was nothing visible wrong, and spraying them with carb cleaner produced no results. On a hunch, I tried replacing the coil pack. After that, it ran as bad or worse. It is running so rough that it won't idle. Anybody have any suggestions to try on it? |

I did a little research and looked on another forum.
I know you changed the plugs but I couldn't tell from your post if you changed the wires or not. Before you do anything else make absolutley sure that you have the wires routed correctly. Change the two wires and plugs that are giving the code out with ones from cylinders that aren't giving you problems. If this doesn't help then you have fuel injectors that are not flowing enough fuel. Fuel injectors are expensive so you may want to trade those out with different cylinders before you buy them. Btw It also sounds like you have a vacuum leak. A lot of people say you have to take the upper intake off to change sparkplugs but you do not. When you do you lend yourself to vaccuum leaks if you don't get it back on correctly. Go around all of the intake sealing points with a can of carb cleaner while the car is idling to see if it is leaking. The idle will speed up if it is. I hope this helps and good luck. One other thing. Buy a Chilton's or Haynes manual You are more tha wlecome to email me if you need some more help. Mike

What about the fuel pump? Did you go to a dealer to have it hooked up to the computer or autozone? The readout you get at autozone isn't as detailed as the one your dealer can give you. You may have to spend the extra cash and have the dealer check it out. I had the fuel pump replaced on my 2000 Taurus back in March. It was quite a chunk of change...$330. Hope that's not your problem, but you may want to look closer at it.

Re: Can no one help me please? Ford taurus, need follow up
We have changed the wires and the plugs, we changed the fuel filter. We have looked at the vaccum and don't see any problems with any leak. We are kind of stumped. Thank you all for everything. Tomorrow we are going to look some other things, and I will letcha know what we find. Looking at the catalck converter and the intake manifold. Not sure if or what we will find, so if anyone knows of some tricks with them, please, by all means fill us in...Once again thanks and we'll letcha know where we end up
