Looking to buy a 300ZX

I love these cars and I am looking to buy a 300ZX manual, and a five speed. I test drove a 5 speed with the 222 hp engine. It feels pretty damn stout. It has good brakes as I tested those too. (the dealer was telling me to drive it like I stole it ) I am going from a 5 speed Jeep Grand Cherokee (I converted to manual myself) so this will be a major upgrade. Here is my jeep: http://community.webshots.com/user/killerzj. I am alos a member at www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums. I will be going to college and want something that gets better mileage, but is still a fun car to have. They look great and drive great. I have no dislikes of them. Not even the 222 hp. I joined this website to learn alot about these cars.

To the question, I was wondering the pros/cons and what to look for and what to look OUT for when buying one of these machines. Thanks guys. I will search around for stuff, too.

Re: Looking to buy a 300ZX

Well... Zeds are beautiful cars, yes... But people ask me all of the time "If you such a Z nut, why dont you own one?"

The answer is simple... THEY'RE HARD AS HELL TO WORK ON!

Thus, it is expensive to get work done to them.

And me being a kid, its not practical right now for me. Unless that is, of course, I find a sweet deal.

But that is one thing you need to know going into a Zed. Being with something beautiful is never cheap, or easy... It takes money, and often times, hard work... And not only in the car realm.

Dont let this deter you from finding your car though, all the sacrafice is well worth while. I was sick of working on the things. I had one Zed that had no problems... The other two were headaches day and night ( '90s curse, severe head trouble)

One thing though, when you get the car... First thing, RIGHT AWAY... Timing belt.

And continue to do so as often (practically) as possible.

Welcome to AF, and good luck in your search

-Wes

Sounds great, but I doubt I can get 9,500 for my ZJ (grand cherokee)

I will try to sell it to a highschooler who wants a cool looking jeep to go mudding in for like 6,000 bux MAX. It isn't work anything more than that. What does that thing put to the wheels e honda?

Re: Looking to buy a 300ZX

Well lets see...

276bhp is stock rating for a JDM VG30DETT... Cut 20% off that, and there you go (respectively)

Re: Looking to buy a 300ZX

I'm a 3000GT guy for the most part but from what I know they're very reliable cars but you'll pay for the nissan name (in my opinion but I'm obviously biased). I looked at the supra 300zx and 3000GT a little when I bought my car (needed on right away for a new job far from home). I initialy wanted the supra because Toyota makes some VERY solid products but it was way to pricy, so was the 300zx, I realy started to look at the 3000GT at that point and decided that it was better looking than the other two (again my opinion, obviously this varies widely and I definately don't dislike the looks of any of them). I did some asking around and found that it was not a bad car like I had thought Mitsus were so I got it and have loved it till I got an itch for more speed. Moral of the story, test drive a TT and see if you think you can do withought it.

So why do the US have 300hp?.......Also forgot to add the chip in the ecu has been changed but it was done prior to me getting the car....So no clue on details about it. I do know it will bury the speedo....

Re: Looking to buy a 300ZX

just listen hard for any weird noises and look for any signs of mistreatment. if you abuse a 300zx, they will break down on you. so get one that was taken care of.

the jdm one had less horsepower because they used smaller turbos. but in the end, the usdm and jdm are about the same speed due to the turbos spooling up faster in the jdm one.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Thats great... Really... Haha, you sick bastard.

Yea JDM Rated horsepower on the VG30DETT was 276 due to smaller turbos... But smaller turbos results in a MUCH quicker spool up time, and a lot less lag. Thus, the JDM Zeds were faster than USDM Zeds in the most important aspects that they were designed for... Road Course.

So I would rather have a JDM engine as opposed to USDM...

Thats why I find your car so interesting E Honda.
