Manifold gasket repair

Hello fellow Montana owners.

First off, a big thank you to all the posters and advice found here at this forum. If it was not for you all i would be mighty depressed.

I bought a 2001 Montana from a small dealer back in May. I drove it around for a couple of months and then discovered this website. A recurring theme that runs through all of GM forums is the dreaded intake manifold gasket. I started to observe my coolant slowly going down.

I went to the GM dealer and of course the gasket needed to be replaced. He quoted me 900 canadian but i said i have read lots of things on the internet. He agreed that perhaps something could be done and went to talk to his service manager.(This was over the phone so i don't know if he actually did it).

He called me back and said GM was going to help. First he said that the repair cost would change to GM dollers "??" in other words 900 became 600. Then Gm would kick in 50% and I the other 50%. The only thing else to pay would be the oil change(Not included)

I was pretty happy that i got 50 % that i took the offer. I realize i probably could have got more from GM but considering i have no service records for the vehicle and that the vehicle was only taken to GM twice in its lifespan (they checked the computer) i thought i did ok.

Any way my particulers are as follows,

2001 Montana 84000 km.

Repair cost to me 369.11 canadian including taxes.

I hope this helps somebody else out there.

Regards

Mike

I certainly wish I had the same luck as you.My dealer told me he had never heard of this repair even after I showed him this forum and some posts. Very frustrating.I have an intake and head gasket, but fortunate for me I used to be a mechanic so I will attempt the repair myself.

Hi Navman911,

Could you please post the bill or fax it to me. I need it to talk to GM and I just pay CAD 1,200 to fix the gasket.

thanks
Derek
