Re: Progress: Widebody Boxster
how did you do the wide body? did you separate the side of the body and add styrene to "widen" it? thats a pretty keen idea. definately helps keep proportions better. lookin good, can't wait to see more progress

Re: Progress: Widebody Boxster
Wow that is very nice!
Did you cut the parts that you made wider and filled it up with putty? That's a brilliant idea ![]() Can't wait to see more progress!

![]() OT:Remember me from the nfs forum (long time ago)? ![]() About the putty: I think any regular putty would do, but since I only bought putty for modeling today, i'm probably not experience to tell you which kind of putty to use. |

Re: Progress: Widebody Boxster
First off, thanks for doing this the right way instead of just slapping a pound of putty onto the side and sanding for weeks.
Second, to fill the cracks, I would suggest Tamiya basic type putty. It's a very easy to use tube putty, similar to the Squadron and Testors efforts but far superior. It doesn't shrink nearly as much, it dries at a good rate, and isn't cumbly once dry. It is also a nice silvery gray that will stand out against plastic and primer. You should be able to get it at well stocked hobby shops (though mine doesn't carry Tamiya supplies), failing that HLJ is a good place to get it if you aren't averse to ordering online. Order some other stuff from them, though, to make shipping worthwhile. Great work so far, stick with that second camera, it is much better! Looking forward to seeing this done. What are you planning to do with the rear end and the taillights? I spy a little alignment issue back there. what's your plan?

Re: Progress: Widebody Boxster
to what Will said. Remember it's a rear-engined car, so you can use the increased girth on the rear quarters as an excuse to leave them open and call them "intake scoops" or something. ![]() Don't forget, you're probably going to have to section and widen the front and rear bumpers to line them up with the fenders, but if you keep up the type of work you've already got here, you'll do fine. For ideas about the headlight/taillight areas, take a look at the Porsche GT1 Le Mans cars. For that matter, look at the Mercedes LM or GT cars, too. |
