crazy transmission

just last night i swapped out my tranny which had bad syncro's for a tranny that i found in a junk yard with 100k miles on it. and both are S1 trannies. so i finished the swap got everything put back together and started the car up and everything was fine. then went to go move it and realized that the shifter was way off when i have it in neutral it is actually supposed to be in first, third, or fifth. then when i have it in second, fourth, or reverse it is supposed to be in neutral. and first gear is practically half an inch away from my radio. everything was connected properly no bolts missing or too many bolts left over. and it just seems that it is connected right but, the feel is way off.

so what can cause this? it feels to wierd to me. the tranny came out of a 90 gs four door.

did you use your shift linkage or the four door's? not sure but the four doors may be longer? are you sure the shift linkage is connected to the tranny all the way? If it isn't in all the way it would place your shifter farther forward like you described. Hmmmm can't think of anything else right now.

yup i used the shift linkage from the 4 door. it does not look or seem longer than the one that i used on my car. but i only used the linkage that connects directly to the tranny.
