Unhappy 1996 Toyota Camry noise on high acceleration, Please HELP !!!

Hi,

I just bought a 1996 Toyota Camry 2.2L L4 16V EFI, automatic transmission at 103K miles. While I was driving back the vehicle to my home, I was getting some screeching noise on accelerations greater than 70-75 miles per hour.

Can someone tell me why this problem is occuring and what is the possible solution for this problem. What will my expenses be, for fixing this problem.

I am confused, for I just bought this vehicle and has already disappointed me with this screeching noise occuring at a speed greater than 70-75 miles per hour.

Please reply immediately, so that I can contact the dealer from whom I bought this vehicle, for any compensation or to get their help for fixing this problem.

Thanks for your time.
jubilantiger.

This is hard to really pinpoint, but there are a few things that it could be.Most noises will show themselves at any speed except for wheel or transaxle issues.Try to get a little more info on this and get back to us,or at least have a little more info for the dealer.

Check the tension on all your fan belts. Check the fluid level in your power steering pump.

Hmm... I've noticed a similar problem on my Camry for over a year now. When my engine is cruising at about 3000 RPM (about 70MPH on the highway), I get an odd noise from the engine. Not quite a screech. More like a lower frequency screech. I wonder if our noises are related.

Thumbs up

Had the same problem on my 93 camry. try getting underneath the car and have someone accelerate to 3rpm- wearing thick gloves try to move around or push upward the exaust pipe.. the end comming out of the engine. you'll notice theres a rubber mount where the tube hangs in the front. see if its damaged or worn out. if it is go to any autoparts store and its like 4 bux.

if that doesn't work try putting some lucas oil treatment in your engine.

hope it works!

ohh i forgot... the exhaust manifold has like 3 screws... if they were lose it would make like a rattle noise. u said the noise was low in frequency noise- could also be a hole in your exhaust or catakytic converter
