type R is hands down the best performer and one of the best looking cars on the list ( if your talkin about the JDM version ) it handles the best, has the highest 1/4 mile time, has a LSD, and a great hand built engine. the only reason why wouldn't own one is becasue it will get stolen right from your driveway in NYC

agreed... i'd rather own the Type R than any other car on that list. It's the best handling FWD car, and completely sport oriented

the type R is the fastest, but it still looks like normal integra...(not that thats a bad thing) but i would go with the toyota celica gt-s.

I love the Integra Type R, but I can't say no to my own car...I think the RSX has better styling... it has more displacement and more hp and torque...as for the lude its bland, a tiburons a hyundai, and I eat Celica GTS's all day....That leaves the eclipse, which I personally have never been driven in, so i cant comment

Re: Asian FWD Coupe Battle

I voted Integra Type R, although I'd be perfectly happy with an RSX Type S or a Celica GT-S. The Tiburon, Prelude, and Eclipse are all too heavy to be considered sport coupes, IMO.

Re: Asian FWD Coupe Battle

Just one small problem with your list of cars, the 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS is an American car.

Its sold only in North America where it was designed and is manufactored, like every Eclipse before it.

Re: Asian FWD Coupe Battle

True, the Eclipse is technically an American car. What I should have said is FWD coupes from Asian car manufacturers. And every car I have listed is an American model (Acura Integra instead of Honda Integra, Prelude SH instead of Prelude S, etc.)

Yep, and the first Eclipse built without Chrysler influence.

Hmm.....

Eclipse with Chrysler - 2.0L turbo four AWD maniacal sports coupe with rally and autocross wins and a reputation for durability and power amongst tuners.

Eclipse without Chrysler - V6 powered coupe with a reputation for breaking down and being girly.

Who'd have thunk it. It took American know-how to make a great Japanese coupe.

i would've sworn that the DSM AWD Turbo Chassis originated as a Mitsubishi Gallant VR-4 in the 80's. then later when it came to american they put a coupe body over it.

Re: Asian FWD Coupe Battle

Yeah, the old Eclipse's AWD system and 2.0 turbo engine were both from Mitsubishi; they just pussied out with the 3rd gen.

Never said Chryco gave them the components (worked on enough of the buggers to know that you can't get the parts that easy or cheaply) but that the Pentastar boys gave Mitsubishi plenty of advice on what would make a car sell in the US market and what wouldn't.

They listened very closely on the 1st gen, less closely on the 2nd gen, and then flat out ignored Chrysler (who really wasn't giving two shits about Mitsubishi at that point anyways thanks to having big daddy Daimler's pocketbook to play with) for the 3rd gen.

Re: Re: Asian FWD Coupe Battle

yea i read somewhere that the engine, and drivetrain components were mitsubishi, while the body was designed by mitsubishi, and chrysler. it would make sense that the engine is mitsubishi, cause its design/block is similar to the engines found in the vr-4, and the evo.

Yep, it's none other than the 4G63, although detuned quite a bit.
