What are the symptoms of a plugged EGR ?

Thanks BlazerLT on the simple instructions for removing, cleaning and reinstalling the EGR valve....but just wondering what are the symptoms of a plugged/dirty EGR ? Is this a task (cleaning) that should be done on a periodic basis ?

Thanks All...

The blazers usual problem is carbon chunks stuck in the pintle. This can cause a very rough idle. If it occurs very often, you might have to remove the upper plenum and clean the carbon out of the EGR ports.
