Question spindle nut size on 97 camry, auto, ABS, 4 cyl?

Does anyone know whether the spindle nut on this particular camry does indeed require a 30mm socket?

Having purchased remanufactured driveaxles, but not the installation, I found the only socket I have that is close to the spindle nut, is a 1 3/16", which I believe equates to a 30 millimeter socket. The 1 3/16" slips off the nut, so I can't use it.

Is there anything else special about the socket needed?

None of my metric sockets are this large, so I have to go buy it.

Thanks

It does require a 30mm socket and a breaker bar to remove the axle nut. There are special sockets that are made specifically for the axle nut, and I do believe they are made by AmPro tools, which are available at Advance Auto Parts, and many other auto parts retailers. I've bought a few from there myself and they've got the job done without slipping and damaging the nut, or breaking my fingers.

Thanks. I got the Pepboys special 30mm socket for $11.99. Advance Auto Parts wanted about $15.99. Then I bought a two foot length of regular pipe for about $6 from my local Ace hardware store that fit quite well over the breaker bar. The 217 ft-lbs or more to remove the spindle nut with that combination was a breeze.

Good to hear you got it...and I'm also glad to hear that I'm not the only person in the automotive world who uses a length of "cheater pipe" in cases such as these. It makes the removal and tightening much easier.
