Codes and Tranny Problem.

I had the same problem. I had to go to auto zone twice and the second person new what they were doing. I had the same codes:740,758,753 & 1860. My problem is I don't know where the wiring harness is? Also now that the light comes on my key gets stuck in the ignition? Can anyone tell me where the harness is? Thanks!

Re: Codes and Tranny Problem.

Definitely sounds like and ignition switch problem, check the ignition fuses under the hood IGN1 and IGN2(may be igna and ignb, can't remember). If the fuses are good, check for power at the ignition switch harness with key on(harness has 2 red wires approx 12 ga, 1 white wire(12 or 14 and may be pink with a white stripe) and a brown, orange, and a yellow. The two red wires should have power all the time(even with ignition off), the pink and white should have power with the key on or in start(crank). The brown and orange are accessory wires and have power in acc or on. The pink wire sends power to the PCM and engine controls. The white wire powers the transmission, PRNDL and some gauges(speedo for sure). Loss of power to the white wire usually results in no PRNDL, no speedo, third gear only, and a bunch of electrical tranny codes

one way to check and see if your old switch was bad is to take the black box on the end of the harness apart. FYI it is tricky to get his back together so you might not want to do this if you plan on using it again. When I had my problems i removed the metal circle ring and pryed the black box apart, carefull not to break it. There was six L shaped metal contacts in it and some had a black circle of carbon on the raised section that makes contact. I cleaned them off and put it all back together and it has worked fine since. I know some people think im crazy for fooling with it and not replacing it but I did what i had to for the time (plus I'm a tightwad). I'm not a machanic, but i am an electrician and i wanted to know what was causing the problem. as I said above You might not want to do this if you plan on using it. but thats your decision.
Good Luck
