door locks

the driver door lock is acting strange as if it were stuck. from the inside the piece you push back and forth to lock and unlock the door wont go either way and is stuck locked. from the nside when u lift the door handle and hold it up the lock moves freely from locked to unlocked. with the door panel off i locked the mechanism from inside, closed the door an proceeded to unlock the door with my key. i got back in the car and the lock worked fine so i put the door panel back on and tried again and got locked out of the car and now i am right back to where i started. can u tightenup the metal rods somehow? would a good lube job on the connections of the rods help? i need door locks and i am stumped yet again. can u tell i am new at this? thanks

there's some sort of plastic piece that joins the rod with part of the lock that i think is to blame. i had the same trouble with all of my locks. one day, while attempting to adjust a bolt to make the window roll up strait, i broke that plastic piece i mentioned. i somehow rigged up a zip tie to do the same job more efficiently, and now the lock works as if it were new. the other locks give me a headache. i can't get into my passenger's side without wiggling the lock to death. same goes for the hatch.
