ABS & TRAC Problem..also gas gage

Hey,

I have a regular 97' Park Av with around 240,000km, and for the past while i've had the ABS & Trac light on. I have disconnected the battery and left it for a while before connecting it back and it has not fixed the problem. A weird thing that i just noticed is that after i turn on the car, the lights appear, but if i press the break pedal while in PARK they go off, but as soon as i take my foot off the lights come back on, it beeps, and once i put it in drive or anything else, they just stay on. Is there a way to check error codes to understand what is wrong with the sensors..is it the sensors maybe it's something else, because ever since the problem began about 2/3 months ago, maybe twice i have had the lights not come on at the start of the engine and it has functioned.Any ideas? on how to check either error codes, or what it might be.?

And also, i was wondering how would i be able to look to fix the gas gage? It does not show the gas properly and just jumps back and forth on its own will. I have read that there is something in the trunk? Where?

Traction control and ABS both use wheel speed sensors to detect differences in wheel rotational speeds for detecting slippage. If one wheel is rotating at a different speed and your foot is on the brake pedal, then the tire is seen as skidding from braking and ABS is activated. If one tire is rotating at a different speed, but you not braking, then the Traction Control System is activated to send power to the other wheel as a tire is seen as power spinning.

What can screw up these systems:

If you have a tire low on air, it will rotate at a different speed than one with proper pressure. Check as your tires air pressure.
If one of the tires is mismatched with the other tires (i.e. a different size), it too will activate these systems.

The gas gauge problem is very common to many GM cars. It has something to do with the sending unit in the tank. As you noticed, the needle will vary by 1/4 tank ususally to the low side. On my P.A., if I overfill the tank, it varies 1/4 tank to the HIGH side putting the needle way beyond max on the gauge. You should be aware of this as needles can fall off or jam making the gauge useless. I do not max out my tank anymore. I also have a Lesaber with the same problem that has a new fuel pump/sending unit. I don't think this problem has a simple fix.

I use the low fuel indicator light as a more meaningfull indicator rather than rely on the floating needle of the gauge.

changed the front tires, they are brand new, and the rear tires are in really good shape. Changed all the breakpads, the front ones about 400km's ago, and the rear about 1000-1500km's ago. No low tire pressures nothing....is there a way to check which sensor it is? Can you purchase sensors for 97 pa's and take out one by one and see which one is faulty?....
