1994 Grand Am SE. Interior lights are stuck on. Yes, I made sure it wasn't the interior light switch turned to ON. I am guessing the sensor that turns on the lights when the driver side front door is opened is stuck or something. The plunger/sensor is easy enough to spot on the rear doors, but where is it and what does it look like for the front door? I was looking all over the door jam and I don't readily see it. I need to find a way to turn off the lights besides pulling the fuse. Many thanks for any help.

Re: 94 SE. Where the heck is the front door triggered light switch?
All right, now that the first step is out of the way (making sure the dimmer/dome switch isn't on) let's find the door switch. GM thought it would be cool to make it part of the door latch, same idea as the trunk light, so they did. Now I'm guessing you want to get to that switch? The door panel has to be removed...

Great. Any suggestions on how to get the door panel off and on again without trashing out the car?
Maybe I'll just kick the door a few times and hope it loosens it up :b Thanks for your reply! |

NM found this link which seems to walk you through it. Hopefully I will be able to figure it out once I get the panel off. Thanks again for your help.

I'm going to see if the key warning chimes come on with the door closed and key still in the ignition with car turned off. If so, that would pretty clearly point me toward the driver side door switch being stuck at open position. I don't really care if the lights come on when the door is open. The car is a beater anyway. I would like to put the fuse back in so the radio works and the ABS light goes off. Any easy disconnect of the switch without ripping apart the door? Thanks again for any help.

Re: 94 SE. Where the heck is the front door triggered light switch?
That pretty much sums up how to pull a door panel off. If you don't have power windows though you will have to pull off the window crank. It's pretty easy to do. There is a small clip that holds it in place. Good luck.

Re: Re: 94 SE. Where the heck is the front door triggered light switch?
Suprisingly, door chimes weren't pointing towards driver side door as culprit. I lubed the light switches on rear doors, sprayed some into front door lock mechanisms, slammed each of the doors a few times and voila....problem solved. If it starts up again, I'm just going to pull the bulbs. I know if I take the door panel off it will never get back on
Thanks again.
