ticking noise
hey you all...been a long time huh???
anyways...i have a question...i have a 86 se v-6 auto 183,000 miles and a 87 gt 5 speed 73,600 miles...well both of them have a ticking noise when im taking off...im not totally positive what it is...on the 87 the exhaust system kind of sucks...becasue i have a leak somewhere in the pipes...could the ticking noise be an exhaust problem???? just wondering... keep in mind...my 87 is great...i dont abuse or race the car...and i dont rev rpms high... the 86 was raced a couple of times...nothing huge...it is pampered now just like the 87

Bosch fuel injectors on older GM cars have a habit of ticking when they get old, it's not a sign of "bad" injectors, just a nuisance sound caused by age and mileage. The pintle and seat inside the injectors have a coating to keep them quiet during operation, and time simply wears this away causing the metal parts to contact each other. This may not be the cause of your tick, but I thought it was worth mentioning. My 92 Regal ticks like crazy, and I was freaked out at first thinking it was the lifters, but it turned out when I got in there and listened closer it was the just the injectors being noisy.
