2004 remote starter, has anyone installed one?

I understand 04 Trailblazer has a complicated starting system. Has anyone actually added a remote starter to one and was successful? What did you need to do it, or what system did you use? Where can I get one.

I started to phone around today for a remote starter for an 04 TB. I was told by one person to watch what type of work around is used if you have a transponder in the SUV. Don't let the installer take a key and use it to over ride the security system, I guess the key has a module for the security system in the SUV to recoginze it. I am checking with various GM dealerships on who they use. This may not be much help, I will post what I get when I get it. This is a great question.

Thanks for any help on this. I looked at the schematic of the starting system and it looks like this is passlock 3 and not a transponder. Looks like the Body control module gets the signal from the hall effect switch in the ignition switch and it has to see the right voltage drop and the timing of how fast the key returns in order for the BCM to then send a signal to the Powertrain control module to allow it to engage the starter relay and fuel. So all I am really after is has someone actually added a remote starter and were they successful and what system did they use.

I just had a prestige full alarm with remote start installed from a shop that my friend owns. You will need to have to extra modules/relays installed with each costing around $50-60each.

I love mine and have had no problems with it at all. I would definetly not buy the self-install units as I have heard NOTHING good about them.

I would look around at different stereo shops to find a competant installer and ask many questions to see if they have a clue to what they are doing.

I would try to stay away from a Best Buy/Circuit City install. Just my opinion.

OK people. Some of you are correct but only slightly. I have done so many of these vehicles lately it isn't funny. Yes, these TB have whats called Passlock 2 systems. It is actually part of the ignition system. That's why you can just get keys copied and they'll work. The Passlcok3 system is on the big platform cars and some midsized vehicles like the new Bonneville. Those have the "codes" in the keys. So with that, you can not copy keys and make it start. THey have to be coded keys and be taught to the car.

You are lucky today with bypassing these systems. I was one of the ones who figured out how to do keyless entry and disarm the OEM alarm years ago when this new vehicle first came out. It was a real pain, you had to open up each front door and install relays. You had wires running all over. Today, you can use things like from this place http://www.transponderbypass.com/gmdl.asp Not only does it bypass the PK2 system, but it will also talk to the vehicle's computer and make it unlock, lock, horn beep, interior lights, and others. It just has one wire that hooks up to purple data wire on OBDII port at the bottom of the dash.

Obviously, I would not tell anyone to do this car themselves. There are a lot of things that could go wrong. I would only tell you to find a good Directed Electronics Dealer. You can find a local dealer at their web www.directed.com They're the best on the market.

the module that is needed is GMDAA made by autoland.ca this will by pass the passlock as well as the lock and unlock
