Looking....

I'm looking to buy a 2001 GTP for my first car next summer or so.

I have a limited budget and I don't want my car to look modded on the outside, except for like rims and Ram Air hood.

Cheap mods and any random advice is welcome.

The type of driving I will likly do is mostly daily, but with hard acceleration from lights, fast curves and quick stops. I don't need any 140+ MPH stuff, just accel.

My idea is to buy it and park it for a year while I work on it like a hobby.

So yeah, thanks again!

there are many things you can do for free or cheaply to modify your gtp. check these out:

Re: Looking....

if you like driving fast through the corners than i'd say get new springs and struts. i have b+g springs with kyb struts and this helped alot. this is the cheaper way to go but if you want to spend the xtra cash then go with koni spring/strut combo. the only thing is that if you go with the b+g/kyb setup is your gonna have to do the anti-pogo trick which is replacing the flat washers, that go on the strut, for ones that you have to get at the dealer for 20 bucks.

Re: Looking....

The only things I can't do is use a lift (whole car up at once) and weld. Pretty much anything else I can doo, and if I had to do one of those I could go to my uncles.

I'd say I'd be willing to spend 15k on the car, and maybe 2-4 K on mods.

Thanks for the replies so far, don't be afraid to add!!

as you may very well know already rims will run you a bit of money, and a ram air hood will cost about $600-700, so you may want to hold up on those especially if the hood isnt functional. Read up on the other posts on this forum, there are a lot of great suggestions for people asking about starting to mod. good luck, you should be pretty quick after putting 2-4k under the hood.

Re: Looking....

Thank you, and a side note: Yes, I was planning on the hood being functional.

Also, do you guys know about those electric turbo blowers they have now?

Well, what would happen if I hooked it up on a SC GTP?

Probably a boom 'n plume right?

electronic blower

i had one of those on my 98 gt and i thought i felt a difference with it blowing into my air box from the fender but i think a fwi or cai would have done the same thing. i wouldn't bother with it. you already have a blower just mod that if you want real results. a sc pulley makes a big difference and is only 60-120 dollars depending of if you want to a press on or a modular system.

Re: Looking....

That's the shape of my list so far, for under the hood mods. That's about the limit of my likley budget too.

For a guy who just wants to have a fast car that he won't kill himself in, and doesn't need sub 13 second 1/4 mile times, what on that list should be change/added/removed?

it would probably be cheaper if you are putting a modular sc pulley system on your car if you just rented the pulley puller tool from zzperformence. you'll only need it once...if you are planning of changing press on pulleys occationally (pain!) then you would want to buy it.

Re: Looking....

Okay, yes you're right from 3800performance it's 35$ to rent it. If I'll only need it once I guess i'll do that.
