Do mean the knob is actually stuck, or do you mean wherever you turn the knob it stays on defrost? If you are turning the knob and it stays on defrost you probably have a leak in a vaccum hose. My 94 corsica 3.1L had the same problem.

DOES CHEVY STIL USE VACCUM OR IS IT ALL ELECTRIC?

I'm not really sure. Like I said, my 94 corsica had vaccumm hoses, but I know that they updated alot of things in 96. I have never looked on my 98 monte. So does your heater knob turn? or is it actually stuck in place?

Re: Ac Heater Controls

The circulation changes are vacuum-electrically controlled. You may have a bad vacuum solenoid control module, which has six colored vacuum hoses going to it. OR, you could have a bad vacuum hose somewhere.

do you know where the vaacumn lines are located under the dash?

Re: Ac Heater Controls

they are inside the dash, my friend. You'll have to take some junk apart to get at them. Truthfully, I've never had any of that apart on my monte so I can't tell you exactly. A Haynes or Chilton's may be necessary.

Ac heater controls not working

I own a 98 Monte and had the same problem after changing the battery. After removing the batery again , I found the vacuum line that goes to the vacuum storage canister to be broken. After patching the line with a 5/32 piece of tubing, every thing is working.
