Older tape deck/newer car; plugs don't match.

I have an Accord and someone gave me a stock tape deck to add to the existing stereo from an earlier year. It's plug doesn't match the plug on the newer stereo. It is an 8 prong round plug and I have a 7 prong rectangular plug. Is there an adapter or any way to get these to work together. Thanks.

I highly dout there is a harness you can buy for your problem, save your self some money pull out the wire snippers and the wire diagrams & but the wires together, or cut the wires and get the plug from the other car and pull each pin and transfer each wire one by one from your plug to the other plug.

Someone gave me an older tape deck to add to the stereo in my car. There's an extra plug in the back of the stereo to add an accessory but it is rectangular and the older tape deck's plug is round. I either need something to rewire it or an adapter. Like on a computer when the mouse changes connectors, they have adapters to use on an existing machine. Thanks for your help.

Re: Re: Older tape deck/newer car; plugs don't match.

ok this is what u have to do, i doubt that there is an adaptor that you can buy for ur situation, your gonna have to get a color wire code reference to see what each wire means. You can get this at http://www.carstereo.com/help/index_reference.cfm here you can find out what each wire means that comes out of your car (car wire codes) and what each wire means that comes out of your deck or head unit (radio wire codes). After you have determined what each color represents, then all you have to do is strip the ends of the wires and, match and attach, each wire that comes out of your car with its coressponding wire coming out of the deck or head unit. Jus make sure that while you do this the ignition is off and try not to let the wires touch eachother while they are eposed. When i first tried this, the power wires touched and the fuse would blow. So when you have all of the wires connected and taped with electric tape and it is still not working, chech your fuses. if u need any more help feel free to email me. later
