Tran problem i think
i have a 2000 GT with 44,000 miles. The problem is that if i drive over 3000RPM my transmision those not want to shift. EX. I take off and when i reach over 3000 RPM my RPMS keep going up but the car is not going any faster then it will shift after a few seconds. if i just drive without reaching 3000 RPMS then the car drives fine. i just changed the Trans fluid with a new GM Filter and still does the same thing. Somebody told me to put a trans additive. they said if that fixes my problem then my trans is goint out but i put the additive and the problem is still there. SO it might be something else. This is the first problem i have had with this car since i bought it brand new. If anybody has any suggestion or had the same problem let me know.

It sounds like you have a problem with the solenoids that cause the transmission to shift not the entire transmission. Also you may want to change the vacuum modulator as it will cause a similar problem. It is cheap and easy to change.

I had a similiar problem with my 02 Gt, and it ended up being my Catalytic Converter, Unfortunetly I'm having the same issues you are AGAIN, only 8 months after getting it fixed. I'm gonna check into the others that GTPDad mentioned, but you may want to also have the cat conv checked as well.

You all should really get your spark plugs changed along with those black boots. They can cause a lose of power and other wierd things that would fool you to believe your tranny is going out. Trust me I have been there. Once I changed my plugs, the power of my car ran like it was new again. 2001 Ga Se 55,000k

The vacuum modulator is located on the top of the transmission near the cross over pipe if you have a V6. It has a vacuum line running to it. Simply remove the vacuum line then remove the bolt that holds it in place. The modulator should come right out. There is a small valve located inside the hole that can be removed with a small magnet. Simply replace in reverse. Also check the vacuum line since it may be bad and causing you to not have enough vacuum to allow the transmission to shift properly. The solenoids are more difficult to change but try the modulator first and see if that works. Good Luck!

4T45E transmissions have a side cover on the drivers side that must come off to access the shift and pressure control solenoids. Although your symptom sounds a little different than most I've read, I would still suspect that your pressure control solenoid (PCS) might be bad. The Delphi PCS that was original equipment in the 4T transmissions from 95 to 2002 is known to wear out quickly and cause slips, shudders, harsh engagements, and other pressure related transmission issues. The task of replacing one is rather involved since you have to remove a drive axle and lower the transmission a bit just to get the side cover off enough to reach the solenoids. I did the one on my Saturn L a few months ago (new PCS fixed all my symptoms), and it took about 5 hours or so. Much better do DIY than to spend $500 or $600 at dealer though, as long as you're reasonably sure the PCS is at fault.
