Trouble starting '96 Jetta...electrical problems?

There are some cold mornings when I start my car and it will reset the clock. This morning (again, cold) I tried to start my car, but the engine would not turn over, the clock reset and the car alarm went off. I tried to start the car several times and it took 7-8 attempts before it finally did start. The car had not been started for 5 or 6 days, so I don't know if this played a role in it. Help!!

This may not help, but you could check the battery terminals to make sure there is no moisture. Also check that they are secured tightly. Because whenever you take the negative cable off it resets the time and the alarm will go off. So i kind of sounds like youre not getting enough power... maybe almost-dead battery. Hope that helps somewhat.
