inspection due

Hey guys I have been trying to find some answers to my 96 explorer questions. I recently had the passenger front bearing go completely out while driving. The only thing left was some small pieces of bearing. It actually caught fire from the grease. Anyway, I had to get what i heard was called a "fork" from a junk yard. Inside the caliper there was this little round sensor of some sort. My ABS light was on for a period of time before all of this happened. Does anyone know what this sensor is and how easy it is to replace. I have to have an inspection done on my exporer in order to get it registered in NJ. The "sensor" on the old fork was burnt from the heat. I also have a check engine light on. I had a checkers auto out in Colorado do a diagnostic on it and it read that the left bank of the catalytic converter was below threshold and under operating conditions. I was told that this wasn't that big of a deal unless it needed to be inspected which has brought me to now. Is this indeed a problem, and do I need to replace the catalytic converter? I am also going to have to replace the power steering pump. It is whining when I turn the wheel. However this shouldn't be an issue for the inspection. I don't think. Sounds like the sensor could possibly be an ABS or wheel speed sensor (think thats what it is called). If the ABS light was on before this happened, I would venture to say it is some sort of sensor for the braking system, possibly an ABS sensor. As for the catalytic convertor, I would guess unless the car is emitting a ton of polution out the exhaust, you can probably get it through inspection alright. Anyway, if you have to replace it, you may want to with one that is performance oriented so you can gain some horsepower at the same time. Good luck

I am only trying to get it through the inspection. I am planning on selling it as soon as I can. I thouht that if the check engine or any other light was on it would be failed at inspection?!?

You're right that a check engine light on would probably fail it. I forgot to mention that the check Engine light most always comes on because of an emissions problem. When you had the computer read it sounds like the Catalytic convertor might me malfunctioning. If it is, my suggestion would be to find a reputable repair place and have it replaced. The reason I said to maybe put a performance cat. convertor on is because they are usually cheaper than a FOMOCO factory equipment which is in the hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Good Luck
