Older Corolla

Hello All, I'll Be Getting An Older Model Toyota Shortly. I Believe It Is An "87", Or Something Around That Year. Its A Family Members Car, Their Practically Giving It To Me. Not Sure Of The Mileage Either. My Question Is How Reliable Are These Older Cars, Granted It Has Some Time And Mileage On It. It Has Been In The Family Since Brand New, Well Mantained. I Just Want To Know What To Expect From A Vehicle This Old. This Will Be My First Foriegn Car, I Have Always Had American Cars (chevys, Currently 93 Lumina Euro, And An "03" Olds Alero).
Also Are There Any Kind Of Mods For This Car That I Can Do To Give It More Power????? Thanks For The Info/help.

Thumbs up Re: Older Corolla

I dont know about any mods you can do. But, I can't say enough about Toyota's. I have a 98 Corolla. It has given me absolutely no major problems. The only problem I experienced was my transmission going out but it had nothing to do with the manufacturer. It was the fault of Tire Kingdom. They did a transmission flush and they used a high powered flushing system that knocked something loose inside that caused the problem.

My Corolla has 103k miles and I'll admit hasn't always been well maintained. I've gone 10k miles without an oil change and still ran fine. Toyota makes great cars.

Everyone I know that has one would agree. Actually, I'm looking at trading the Corolla and get a 4Runner.

Re: Older Corolla

Ok, So I Got The Car Its An 88 Corolla, Clean As Hell Interior. Body Has Some Rust - Easy Fix. 106000 Miles, Runs Good As Ever Though. One Thing I Dont Like Ai That The Tires Are 13 Inches, Which Gives Poor Handling When Cornering. Are There Any 14 Or 15 Inch Steel Rims That Will Work Fine On This Car. I Know The Car Was Made For Economical Reasons. I Just Hate 13 Inch Tires, Its Pretty Much A Donut. But Its Still Cool Because I Can Get 4 Brand New Tires Install All For 140.00. I Cant Believe How Good This Car Runs To Be Almost 20 Yrs!!!!!!

i have an 89 corolla and trust me, even if you wanted it to die it wouldn't. mine has about 164,000 miles on it. it was my college car and when i wanted to upgrade to a new one my husband said i would get a new one when that one dies. i ran it bone dry on oil twice for about a week. i still have not one problem with anything in that car. he finally gave in and i got a new car, but we still have that one to use as a "fun car". those 13 inch tires aren't too bad....trust me i've put them to the test on corners...but i have heard of people putting 14's on and having no problems.
