No air flow

Problem with my mustang:

When I start the car it stalls if I take my foot off the gas. I can tell that there is no air flowing into the throttle body.

After a few starts I can hear the air start to flow and then the car runs fine.

Everything is fine with the air intake (it is not blocked). There must be a senors or a valve that is getting stuck and not allowing air to flow in.

What senors or valve controls air flow. How do I replace this part?

Please advise.

Check the IAC on thre side of the throttle body, it may be clogged, try cleaning it out with carb cleaner or replacing it depending on how bad it is.

What does the IAC look like? How do I replace it? Does it just unbolt, any special tools required? Also, how much does a part like that cost?

Is the air filter dirty? Sometimes it's just the simple things that cause problems.

The air filter is not dirty. I have a cold air intake. In addition, I disconnected the air intake and it would still not suck the air.

The IAC is on the side of throttle body facing you when you look at the engine from the front. It is held on by 2 bolts and a sensor is plugged in the bottom, it's clyndrical in shape. By the way whats the year of your stang and the size of the engine?

The year is 2001, the engine is 3.8L
