massive amounts of oil getting ran tbi unit

I have a 96 1.0 three cylinder, and when I drive down the freeway it will suddenly have a big cloud of smoke from oil behind the car it can last from a few seconds to a min or so, the air cleaner become full of oil, Any one have a reason that may happen??

replace your pcv valve and see if that helps
