Program OEM keyless remote

I posted this in the camry section also as my car is techically a camry.

I have just brought a new Remote pad for my 1996 holden Apollo (A camry with holden badges on it). I was unable to get it programmed by either holden or toyota as I need a working remote, which i don't have. The guy from the dealership is looking into but I don't think he'll get (or try) very hard.
Does anyone have or know the procedure for programming new keys to my car. I tried the one for the 2000 camry but got no response from the car. The remote only has one button on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the remote cost me $40 australian.
