17" to 16" wheels
as some of you may know, i just aquired some stock z32 rims for dirt cheap and i am going to put them on for winter wheels after i get them back from being powdercoated. anyways, will going from 17" wheels to 16" wheels affect my speedometer in any way?

Yes it will......Unless the tire/rim combo you had with the 17's is the same overall diameter as the 16's you intend to put on. The car came with 16's so if you want it to be as accurate as the factory settings....Add the same size tires as stock. Smaller tires will make it read faster and larger tires slower. I don't know about nissan but I know fords you can change the speedo gear to compensate.....Nissan could be and electronic pick-up. I am sure someone here knows if there is a speedo head on the Z......
Hope this helps... E.Honda

yeah what ehonda said...but usually when you buy aftermarket wheels, the place you buy them from tries to match the wheels with the correct height of tire to get it as close to stock specs as possible. so, i dont think you will have a problem.

Re: 17" to 16" wheels
going to a 17" wheel wont affect it much, you have to look at overall wheel diameter. 17s with a lower profile tire than a 16 will not affect the speedo at all.

Re: 17" to 16" wheels
Will low profile tires have less thread life than others?

really depends on the brand and type of tire. my low-profile nitto's had just as much tread as a normal tire.

Re: 17" to 16" wheels
take a look at the ratio's on the tires... i believe we've had this conversation once before... i'm not sure what the stock specs are but if you began with something say.. 195/60/r15 then moved to a 205/50/r17 the total diameter should be the same... i think it's 5 per every inch of rim difference... the first number there is the width of the rubber in mm. so as long as you follow that you should be ok.... the stock specs should be on the drivers side door jam

Re: 17" to 16" wheels
look at the tread life numbers on the side wall of the tire. The three things I look for on the tires, tread life, tire heat, and grip ratings.

I'm proud of ya Freak...and don't sweat the nickel dime stuff...pace you car with the new wheels to see what the error is, and when you get your new wheels then check your speedo for errors and adjust as necessary.
