Cheap speed

I don't know much about cars, and I don't pretend to. But how would I go about makin my car a little bit quicker. I don't care about top speed as much as getting there fast. This is my first car, so I don't want to spend much on it cause I know I will wreck it eventually.

Oh man I was gonig to come in here and say the same thing awesome!

On another note what kinda car ya got there ?
As you can see cheap and speed are not words you find combined in the same sentence too often. Depending on the model car you have (SI being the better model) there isnt much you can do for cheap prices. Do the norm I/H/E you wont get breakneck speed but you'll sound like ya do. When the issue of speed comes up we all agree SWAP SWAP ( if you dont have an SI), but this is the most expensive thing you can do so I wont even bother telling you. Oh and turbo yea expensive as well. You want cheap and fast go get a bottle.

Re: Cheap speed

even the bottle isn't cheap. For a proper nitrous setup you could put together a junkyard turbo.

what do you mean by cheap speed do you mean how much horsepower you would get for a dollar or just something you can do to your car to make it fast for cheap

Re: Cheap speed

none to none at all. Intake and exhaust will probably get you around 4-5 whp.

The best way to make a Honda perform, is to install a resistor in the car.
You take a 8ohm resister, and remove the plug from your air temp sensor, and plug the resistor into the wires..
WOOHA, 16% horsepower gain (when you have a honda, 16% is like 3hp)..
Now, to make real performance, your going to want to get a hollow tube thats about 3" wide and call this a muffler. Have it professionaly installed.
Use spring CLAMPS and drop your car till the transmission is hitting the ground.
And most importantly, find the biggest wing and install it on your trunk. YOU WILL NEED THE WING, since your car will be able to acheive over 250mph with your new modifications..

Re: Cheap speed

Spring clams? Never heard of those, I just cut my springs and it makes a world of difference. I can whip around corners like crazy.

My first question is this. How much are you WILLING to spend overall in the end? A junkyard turbo on a d-series can be put toghter if you are willing to do the research on both the how to and to find the right parts for under $1000. A mini-me swap could net a decent gain if you have a non-vtec d-series. A Cold air intake will net a 1% power increase for every 11.1degree's you drop the intake temp. It would probably come out to a 4.5% gain or so, which is around 4-5hp gain. An 2 1/4" cat-back exhaust system probably would net 2, maybe 3hp. If you want an exhaust, you can save a little $$ by buying a qautliy universal muffler and then having a qaulity performance muffler shop build you a good custom 2 1/4" exhaust system. That will save some $$. Me? If it was a d-series, I'd save up and do the build my own turbo kit ("junkyard turbo") if you want a power kick from the stock motor. Both 97CivicX & lkailburn on here have put toghter their own "junkyard" turbo kits for under $1000. In 97CivicX's case, that price also includes a bought Y8 head and the resulting mini-me conversion. If you know how to do any work yourself or arn't afriad to learn and do research, it will help a lot with the costs, especially with a mini-me conversion and junkyard turbo.
