Re: Computer Program for customizing cars?
Its all for the movie. As for changing the appierance if you get good enough in photoshop you can make most anything look real.

Re: Computer Program for customizing cars?
The program was all fake. The closest thing to use would be either Photoshop, or a pad of paper and a pen.

Re: Computer Program for customizing cars?
Accually I think the closest thing would be AutoCAD, but its still far far away.

Re: Computer Program for customizing cars?
I'd say more of a 3d studio max type deal. Pretty close to autocad, but renderings look more 'real'. So yeah I suppose it is possible, except you'll spend a few thousand(I think its around to $5,000) for 3d studio max, then a few years of using it until you're good enough to make a car, then another year until you're any good at creating good renderings. And a car will still take you several months to make.

Re: Computer Program for customizing cars?
I use AutoCAD 2002 for all my 3D. The renderings dont look as real, but if I need them to I can export them to 3DSMax.

Re: Computer Program for customizing cars?
Eh around $200 for students, and I think another $150 for flamingo, which is just an add-on program to make pretty renderings. I don't have flamingo right now, no need yet. I can only render in solid colors and even so, very limited settings and materials and lighting and that kind of stuff.
If you're not a student, I think its around $600 for rhino, probably like $350-450 for flamingo. |

New to the forum, but I'd like to make my first contribution here, as a guest, and a car enthusiast.
Speaking of Downloading programs, visit www.EMachineShop.com, and you can Download a Free version of a newer 3-D Autocad program (complete with tutorial for beginners, like myself). What's nice about it, is that you can choose your materials (Aircraft Aluminum, or Vacuum Formed Plastic, or whatever!) and sizes (diameters, thicknesses, etc.) for whatever piece that you want to design. Then, you can do your drawing, and toggle it back and forth to see the 3-D version (very cool, actually, as I'm working on designing a Custom Aluminum Gauge Panel for my '70 GS Dashboard, and I want to see it BEFORE I build it), and if you submit your file to the website, they can even give you an Estimate of what it would cost to BUILD your design, from the materials and measurements that you choose!
